Taiwo Afolabi
Taiwo Afolabi, is a Nigerian born theatre practitioner who completed his undergraduate studies in theatre and film arts at the University of Jos, northern Nigeria. There he partnered with different communities using theatre to engender capacity building, community development, and social transformation. He was personally affected by Jos crises which in turn spurred his passion to create theatre with displaced persons in the city. This experienced enabled Taiwo to discover his love for arts for social change and as a result, he has collaborated locally, nationally and internationally.
As a theatre practitioner from a country with many challenges, Taiwo used arts for social change initiatives to better his society especially through the activities of his theatre company, Theatre Emissary International. Without funding, he created community initiatives, mobilized support from rural areas and persuaded community leaders to partner in developing and launching programs to educate and make conscious the people on social justice issues and human development themes among others.
